And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: And I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: On such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. (Revelation 20:4-6)
For six thousand years the curse of God has been upon this sin filled, God hating world. But God never intended for it to turn out this way. It was always His will that we have fellowship with Him and to have the best of everything.
The Second Coming of the Lord will mark the day when Jesus will rule and reign on earth for a millennium or one thousand years, bringing with Him true peace and harmony throughout the world. “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body (Romans 8:22, 23).” Not only have we as saints been waiting for the coming of the Lord but all of creation as well. From the smallest insect to the largest mammal have longed for this day. Even the rocks and the mountains will sing and praise his name, for He is worthy.
The Bible describes this as a time of overwhelming abundance and blessing from God. It will be what God originally had planned for man. He will love the world and it will be His pleasure to bless them in all they do. Dr. John Walvoord describes in his book Prophecy that this will be a time of great spiritual revival and brokenness toward God.
Many facets of the millennial kingdom will improve upon the present age. A number of unique features will relate to the spiritual life as Christ’s physical presence will be the visual revelation of God’s glory. Scripture is clear that all the adults who enter the millennial kingdom will be saved, and the unsaved will be purged, whether they are Israelite or Gentile. Children will, of course, enter the millennium without judgment, and during the millennium many others will be born.
Because of Christ’s presence, the earth will abound in knowledge of the Lord: “For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9). At the beginning of the millennium every adult will not only be saved but indwelt by the Spirit of God. There is also evidence that many will be filled with the Spirit, perhaps more so than at any one time ever before (Isaiah 32:15; 44:3; Ezekiel 36:26; 37:14; 39:29; Joel 2:28-29).
The knowledge of the Lord will fill the land and signs of His goodness will overflow like the waters of the sea. The blessings of the Lord will literally overtake man and all that embrace His love will prosper both spiritually and materialistically.
But make no mistake, the Lord will rule with absolute power and strength and no one will oppose or challenge Him. He will rule with a rod of iron.
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: And his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron: And he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:11-16)
I think one thing needs to be understood, the Lord will force His will upon mankind, but it will be for our good and those on the earth will enjoy prosperity unprecedented in all of history. As horrible as the previous seven years were, they will be long forgotten when the Lord takes control.
