PA Working Feverishly to Achieve State - without Negotiations; Where I See This Heading
Palestinian Authority officials are working on several fronts to achieve a Palestinian state without negotiations over conditions for a peace agreement with Israel. These efforts include:
Building institutions: PA interior minister Saed Abu Ali told the Al-Hayat newspaper, “In the framework of our political activity… we are building our state-to-be, and [the institutions] will turn it into an existing fact that will receive international recognition, and we are working with the world’s countries to end the occupation.”
PA elements are also encroaching on Israeli land in Judea and Samaria. The area has been divided into three zones: Area A, in which the PA has full control; Area C, in which Israel has full control; and Area B, where Israel controls military matters and the PA is responsible administratively. Attempting to create "facts on the ground" in all of Judea and Samaria, the PA often builds, with foreign support, in Area C.
Mahmoud Abbas continues to travel around the world to garner support for a PA state. The visits are intended to build regional support for recognition of a Palestinian state in Yesha, and for a total halt on Israeli settlement construction as a condition for the PA to agree to resume peace talks with Israel. Here's something that you should take note of. For years I have been receiving reports that Israel has been allowing "PA elements" to be unofficially built on Jewish soil both in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem. Certainly, stop-work and demolition orders have been issued on many of the elements but virtually none have been carried out. As stated in the report, these "PA elements" have been created to bolster the "facts on the ground" in all of Judea and Samaria. In other words, the message they are trying to send to the international community is, by Israel allowing the PA to build permanent structures (stadiums, government institutions, etc.) in the West Bank, they have unofficially surrendered the territory. They are attempting to implement the same strategy in East Jerusalem but haven't been quite as successful. As Palestinian Leader Mahmoud Abbas travels around the world, it is this message of Israeli territorial surrender that he is emphasizing to global leaders.
Personally, I believe it is only a matter of time before either a forced or mutual peace agreement is realized. Even Israeli leaders are conveying the message that they are willing to concede at least the West Bank. Prime Minister Netanyahu said last June, during a speech at Bar Ilan University, that he is ready to recognize a Palestinian state but it must be demilitarized. "Any area in Palestinian hands has to be demilitarized, with solid security measures. Without this condition, there is a real fear that there will be an armed Palestinian state which will become a terrorist base against Israel, as happened in Gaza. We do not want missiles on Petah Tikva, or Grads [Katyushas] on Ben Gurion International Airport. We want peace." Israelnationalnews
This is what I see for the near future. I don't believe the US will allow the international community to declare a unilateral Palestinian state at least not on this side of the rapture. But when Christians are taken from this world the US will quickly turn on Israel. They'll still extend protection in the name of Middle East peace, but when the Russian-Islamic Alliance comes calling (Ezekiel 38 & 39), they will protest, but will not come to Israel's rescue.
As far as Jerusalem is concerned, that issue will likely be settled at a later date. Zechariah 12:3 states, in the last days, Jerusalem would be a "burdensome stone" and "a cup of trembling unto all the people round about". It will continue to be a burdensome stone years after a Palestinian state is created.
I believe this state will be born in two phases. Phase one will see the official creation of a Palestinian state with internationally accepted borders. Phase two will incorporate the division of Jerusalem, which will include the establishment of ground rules for going forward and the eventual end date for completion of the division.
Where does the status of the Temple Mount play into the future? The Bible says that the Temple must be built at some point before the middle of the tribulation period (Daniel 9:27). Of course, we know that the Dome of the Rock, an Islamic holy site, sits squarely on top of the Temple Mount ruins. At present, the Islamic world has no desire to relinquish this coveted property to the Jews. Many experts believe, when the Antichrist comes on the scene, he will somehow convince the Islamic world to turn over the Temple Mount (or at least share it) to the Jews possibly in a land exchange. Personally, I do not believe they would ever agree to give up even one inch of the Temple Mount to the Jews.
I think it is more likely that following phase one, but early into the tribulation period, the Russian-Islamic Alliance will attack Israel (Ezekiel 38 & 39). The Bible tells us, when this great army begins their attack, God will intervene bringing about a great earthquake, cause terrifying and destructive weather conditions, confusion, pestilence, and rain down fire and brimstone (Ezekiel 38:17-23). When it's all said and done, 83% of the invading army will be lost (Ezekiel 39:2). But during the great earthquake, I believe the Temple Mount will be shaken causing a complete collapse of the Dome of the Rock. When this miraculous intervention takes place, followed by the complete destruction of the Islamic temple, Israel will begin its revival back to God. The first step will be to rebuild their Temple on the original Temple Mount and neither the international community or the Islamic world will dare to stop them.
Where does the the rapture of the church come into play in reference to this attack? There are several theories that have developed, but most believe the rapture will either take place before or concurrent with the battle of Gog and Magog. Certainly, it is possible that the attack could take place prior to the rapture. If that were the case, I would suggest that it is likely there will be a minimum of a seven-year time gap before the tribulation period would begin since the Bible says Israel will burn the invading armies weapons for seven years (Ezekiel 39:9). With that in mind, this attack may take place first with the start of the tribulation period beginning some seven plus years later. In this theory, the rapture would take place sometime in between these two events.
When will the rapture take place? The rapture could literally happen at any moment! We as Christians are instructed to look for the rapture not the tribulation period (Mark 13:35-37; Revelation 3:3). If we are going through the tribulation period the rapture (I Thessalonians 4:13-18) would be totally unnecessary and would serve no purpose. So when will it take place? Before the tribulation period begins! (see question# 1034; # 52; # 23).
