Will Direct Peace Talks Come Or Is War The Next Step In The Middle East?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Leader Mahmoud Abbas look to be heading toward direct peace talks in the very near future due to US President Barack Obama's heavy pressure. As mid-term elections take shape in the next few months, it is likely that it's more of a symbolic victory for Obama, then a real advancement toward peace. Jewish World Review contributor and deputy managing editor of The Jerusalem Post, Caroline B. Glick, states in her latest article that Abbas doesn't want peace with Israel and couldn't bring it about even if he did.
Today, it is not the US-trained and financed Palestinian army that keeps Abbas' expired government in power in Judea and Samaria.
It is the IDF. If the IDF were to withdraw, Hamas would take over in those areas just as it took over Gaza three years ago.
And if Abbas signed a peace accord with Israel tomorrow, he would have no capacity to implement it. He would be dead before he had a chance to declare statehood. And he knows it (JWR).
Abbas has little authority and has been dodging direct peace talks for years by setting impossible conditions for Israel that he knows they will never accept. However, the Bible says that peace will one day come (Daniel 9:27) followed by another miracle...the rebuilding of the Holy Temple ((Revelation 11:1) on its original location. Of course, there is one big problem, Islam's third holiest site, the Dome of the Rock, sits squarely on the Temple Mount. Until that is removed the Jews will not be able to build their Temple. And there is no way the Moslem world would ever allow or permit the Holy Temple to sit along side the Dome of the Rock. That would be an unforgivable atrocity that would provoke a worldwide holy war.
Earlier today, fighting broke out on the Lebanese border. At least four Lebanese soldiers, a news reporter, and one Israeli soldier were killed. Immediately, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad pledged his support for Lebanon and stated Syria would stand behind them if war were to break out.
"According to debkafile's military sources, the clash was staged deliberately by the Lebanese side to divert attention from the radical change in the balance of power in Beirut as a result of President Bashar Assad's abrupt switch of patronage from Hizballah's Hassan Nasrallah to Prime Minister Sa'ad Hariri (Debkafile)."
Intelligence experts are increasingly leaning toward a Middle East war in the very near future. After this mornings cross border Israeli-Lebanese firefight, the possibility has been further magnified. And don't rule out a US strike against Iran either. According to retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, a former fighter pilot, the operation would primarily be an air attack with some covert work. And it wouldn't necessarily be as all extensive as many have been led to believe.
John Pike, a military analyst who runs Global Security.org, said although Iran has many potential nuclear facilities, only about a half dozen would have to be hit to set Iran's nuclear program back for a significant amount of time.
"Almost all are in isolated areas where civilian casualties would not be much of a problem," Mr. Pike said. "Most of them have co-located staff housing. Bomb the housing, kill the staff, set back the program by a generation.
His website's scenario states: "American air strikes on Iran would vastly exceed the scope of the 1981 Israeli attack on the Osiraq nuclear center in Iraq, and would more resemble the opening days of the 2003 air campaign against Iraq. Using the full force of operational B-2 stealth bombers, staging from Diego Garcia or flying direct from the United States … two-dozen suspect nuclear sites would be targeted (The Washington Times)."
Will war come before peace? Is the Middle East about to explode into another regional war? Or will this be the time when the Lord steps in and destroys Israel's enemies?
Are you ready to meet the Lord? If not, your time is running out!
