Sat Jun 8,12:59 PM ET By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer TALLINN, Estonia (AP) - A top U.S. envoy said Saturday his talks in India and Pakistan produced potentially important steps toward averting war between the nuclear-armed rivals. "I think you couldn't say the crisis is over, but I think you could say the tensions are down measurably," Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage told reporters after he arrived in this Baltic capital on a flight from New Delhi. Armitage said India is considering the return to Pakistan of some recalled diplomats and making "military gestures" to lessen tensions. He said he believed India will act within a few days in response to commitments Armitage delivered from Pakistan. A spokeswoman in New Delhi said India's foreign minister told Secretary of State Colin Powell by telephone the Indian government feels Pakistan is moving forward, "in the right direction." Pakistan's information minister said Armitage's words on Indian intentions indicated the "ice has broken." END I hope this is true, but eventually these two countries will clash. Unfortunately, it's only a matter of time. Pakistan maybe heading in the right direction but these two countries have a history of bad blood and that won't go away just because Pakistan is making progress. Cross border raids will have to end and terrorism will have to cut out…India will no longer tolerate it. The threat of war must have been real for these changes to have been made. Sat Jun 8,11:59 AM ET By RON FOURNIER, AP White House Correspondent CAMP DAVID, Md. (AP) - Rebuffing calls from Arab leaders, President Bush said Saturday he is not prepared to offer a political timetable for the creation of a Palestinian state. "We're not ready to lay down any specific calendar, except for the fact that we have to get started quickly - soon - so we can seize the moment," Bush said at the conclusion of weekend talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Despite Bush's frustration with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Mubarak urged, "We should give this man a chance." With an exasperated edge to his voice, Bush said he was disappointed in Arafat's leadership and called once more on Arafat to "do everything in his power to stop the violence, to stop the attacks on Israel - I mean everything." END The Palestian state will come, but God is taking it in His timing. But that will not be the determining factor for the peace accord. The peace accord will be initiated for the purpose of settling the problems between the two states. Palestine and Israel will still be mortal enemies and that will have to policed for seven years.
