EU Treaty Changes & Where It Could Lead; Arab Spring Update September 2012
Finnish Minister of European Affairs Alexander Stubb said he is skeptical about the need for changes to EU treaties and that he disagrees with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso's assertion that Europe cannot move forward under existing treaties, Reuters reported Sept. 18. Changes could trigger referendums and increase uncertainty, Stubb said. Changes in the eurozone are causing Helsinki to re-evaluate its position within the group (Stratfor).
This is all part of the eventual breakup of the EU. Following the rapture, I believe the European Union will fall deeper into an economic spiral toward insolvency. The US won't be far behind. The world will be looking for a savior who can bring them out of this economic recession near depression. This man, known as the Antichrist, will rise up out of the EU and bring financial stability to the EU first, then to the US, and to the rest of the world. But shortly following his peace agreement with Israel and many (Daniel 9:27), world war will breakout leaving one-quarter of the world's population dead (Revelation 6:3-8). It is very likely this will be a nuclear war.
I believe this is probably when the Gog & Magog War (Ezekiel 38 & 39) will take place. I also would not rule out a Psalms 83 war scenario happening during this great war. With a death toll of nearly 2 billion people by present population figures), I have to believe Israel and her neighbors will be at war. Many of these countries will cease to exist as a functional nation.
When this war ends, we know that at least three blocs of nations will survive. 1) The Antichrist's kingdom (Revelation 13:6), 2) Israel (Revelation 12:17), and 3) the kings of the East (Revelation 16:12-14).
Following this great battle, it is my belief the Antichrist will rule the world and institute his new economic system. Following the complete destruction of the US and the world's financial system (US system), it will be necessary to restructure the global economy from the ground floor up. But this won't be a democratic market economy. The Antichrist will require everyone to take his mark (666) and worship him as a god. Those who don't will be hunted down and imprisoned and/or executed.
This will also be a terrifying time. The Bible says the times will be so horrifying men will literally die of fright for fear (Luke 21:26) of the things that will come upon earth.
It should also be noted, when Satan and his demons are cast out of heaven after the war in heaven (around mid-tribulation period; Revelation 12:7-9), they will be confined to the earth. All Biblical references of earthly demons always has them possessing a human body (exception-swine; Matthew 8:30-32). It is my belief, when Satan and his demons are confined to the earth, they will all possess a human body (example: Satan possesses Antichrist). These demons will likely form much of the military structure of the Antichrist. It is likely they will also use supernatural demonic means to hunt down those who have refused to take the mark of the Antichrist.
Arab Spring Update: As you have watched on the news, the Islamic and Arab world continues to be prepared for the Lord's future plans. Certainly we are in the midst of a changing Middle East that will embolden themselves to once again attack Israel. But this time they will be lead by Russia. Look for the Muslim Brotherhood to further make their presence known in the political world throughout much of the Middle East.
