September 10, 2002 (BBC) Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's mainstream Fatah movement says it rejects and will prevent attacks on civilians in Israel and is asking militant groups such as Hamas to do the same. The announcement, backed by Fatah's grassroots militia group Tanzim, includes a commitment to peace and co-existence with Israel. However it is not clear whether the declaration has been endorsed by one of Fatah's most militant factions, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. The Fatah move, just before the second anniversary of the current Palestinian uprising, received a sceptical reaction from Israeli officials. The declaration comes a day after Yasser Arafat condemned all attacks against Israeli civilians in a speech to the Palestinian assembly in the West Bank town of Ramallah. However, he stopped short of calling for an end to suicide bomb attacks. (BBC) Iraq has called on Arabs to strike back at American lives and property if the US launches a military attack against Baghdad. Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan - speaking after talks with King Abdullah in the Jordanian capital, Amman - called for Arabs to "confront the material and human interests of the aggressors wherever they are found". He denounced US and British claims that Iraq was building banned weapons of mass destruction as "lies" and said United Nations inspectors would only be allowed back into Iraq as part of a comprehensive UN solution to the current crisis. Washington's main backer in its Iraq policy, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, warned on Tuesday that "action will follow" if Iraq does not comply with the United Nations. Speaking to British trade union leaders, Mr Blair said the Iraqi Government was "unrivalled as the world's worst regime" and must be disarmed. END Actually, I do believe if we can get past the Iraqi conflict without any other Arab countries getting involved that maybe some progress can be made in the Middle East. But that's a big if. Unfortunately, not all major resistance groups are ready to lay down their ambitions (Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade) for the sake of peace. Of course, the Arab world really never has wanted peace. Their ultimate plan is to destroy Israel and that will never change. It looks like Iraq has no intention of giving into the UN inspectors. I see an attack sometime very soon, maybe as quickly as this month. It should be stated that the Lord is in control and He could at anytime change the world scene. Pastor Malone
