November 16, 2002 If you haven't heard, Iraq has fired on Allied jets patrolling the Southern Iraqi No-Fly Zone a day or two after accepting the U.N. resolution. Is that a breach of the resolution? If they are accepting the resolution there should be no reason for hostilities. After all, we do have a right to patrol that area under the terms of the first agreement.
By the way, a London newspaper has reported that Saddam has made a deal with Libyan leader Colonel Moammar Gadhafi for political asylum for himself, family and top leaders of Iraq. A precaution in case we attack. The cost of selling out his country…$3.5 billion from our food for oil program. Of course, Iraqi officials vehemently deny the allegations.
I think that we can surmise from this information that Saddam never intended to uphold his end of the bargain. Detractors who have held up the process this long should be ashamed of themselves and run out of office.
Unfortunately, commonsense has fallen to world opinion, just as the economy has fallen to the greed of the 90s. We've spent way too much time listening to misguided actors and actresses. We will always have the anti-war crowd, but thank God for those who are willing to live and die for this country. It is because of them that we enjoy the freedoms of today. Peace through strength is the only philosophy that will survive in this godless world.
May we continue to stand strong in the face of world leaders and celebrities who do not have or best interest at heart.
