TV Declares Saddam In Control (AP) - Strong explosions shook the Iraqi capital after sunset
Saturday, the latest in the daily dose of aerial bombardment by U.S.-led forces.
The Iraqi regime asserted battle successes and maintained Saddam Hussein and his
sons had "the aggression" in hand. Thunderous blasts struck Baghdad
throughout Saturday, sending towering columns of smoke into the air. Warplanes
could be heard overhead for a second straight day, but the targets were unclear. Poll: Americans Optimistic
About Quick War Public optimism that the war against Iraq will be successful
and short has grown in the last week, now that the war is under way, a new poll
suggests. A CBS-New York Times tracking poll, out Saturday, suggested
that almost two-thirds, 62 percent, say the war will be quick and successful,
and 33 percent thought it would take a long time and be costly. In early March,
only four in 10 said they thought the war would be quick.
By a 2-1 margin, people now say that removing Iraqi leader
Saddam Hussein is worth the cost. Blair's
Approval Rating Up To 56 Percent (Reuters) A majority of Britons now approve of Prime Minister Tony
Blair's handling of the Iraq crisis, a sharp rise from levels before the
military campaign began, a new poll showed on Saturday. The ICM poll said 56 percent of those asked said they believed
Blair's handling had been "about right," while 26 percent thought he
had been "too firm" in launching a war against Iraqi President Saddam
Hussein. Comments Iraq is trying very hard to convince the world that Saddam
Hussein is still alive which leads me to believe that he is dead. Today's
video made him look pretty good and refreshed, especially compared to the
footage we viewed a few days ago. It wouldn't shock me if his son's were
dead as well. Despite anti-war protest in the U.S. and around the world, a
poll indicates that by a 2-1 margin Americans believe that the cost of war is
worth removing Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Tony Blair's approval
rating has also taken a huge jump since the war began. Two week ago his
approval rating was at 29 percent and many were talking about political
suicide. But a recent poll shows that his rating has jumped a whopping 27
points to 56 percent and it continues to climb. As I have said for weeks,
these two men will come out of this war bigger than ever. President Bush
will have to overcome economic problems at home but for at least the remainder
of his first term he will be riding high. Here's a scenario for you. What if President Bush
suffered the same fate that his father did in the 1992 election...win the big
war against Iraqi, only to lose the election in 2004 due to a poor
economy. It is possible that he and Mr. Blair could introduce the Middle
East peace plan, and in the middle of negotiations, President Bush ends up
losing his bid for re-election. If this were to happen, it is my belief that Prime Minister
Blair would have to step in and act as the point man especially if things are
going well. It would be foolish to draw up a new plan just because of a
U.S. administration change. At some point, God will allow satan to cause
circumstances to accelerate into what will culminate in the signing of a peace
treaty. Just something for you to think about as we head for the final
hour.
