Historic EU constitution approved
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Europeans from 28 countries toasted the
first ever constitution for Europe after 16 months of hard
bartering.
Despite the inauspicious date, Friday 13th, the 105-member
Convention on Europe's Future was able - with a palpable sense of relief - to
give the nod to the treaty blueprint containing well over 400
articles.
Convention president Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, whose autocratic
style kept the whole constitutional train from derailing on several occasions,
characterised the process as a "mixture of hope and fear sprinkled over with a
little dream powder".

The idea of sending troops to the Middle East as peacekeepers is gaining momentum. Actually, it will be a powerful army that will be backed by worldwide support. Of course, there are a few out there that are against the idea, but they don't have much say in the matter. Even France is considering sending troops.
The E.U. has been negotiating with both Yassar Arafat and Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas. They feel it is a mistake to isolate Arafat due to the fact that he has the approval of the vast majority of the people. Abbas is just getting his feet in the water and has not gain the support necessary to make the negotiations stick. I partly agree that Arafat maybe the key to a ceasefire but he's still the ring leader of the terrorist problem. The E.U. isn't making it any easier for the U.S. to make this situation get better.
The new E.U. constitution has been approved with little fanfare. I'm surprised there wasn't more press on this major development, but again, they don't know what we know. I have provided a link to a Reader Friendly Version Of EU Constitution. Take a look at it. This may give you some insight into where Europe is heading.
