Row Over Geneva Accord
The US secretary of state rebuffs Israeli criticism over planned talks on an
unofficial Mid-East peace plan.
Geneva:
Setting The Wolves Loose Upon The Sheep
Ben-Aharon said that Arafat "has a long-term strategy, not connected at
all to Oslo or any other agreement, and that is to cause internal strife in
Israel, while at the same time dragging us down with acts of terrorism... The
'achievements' of this agreement will be used by European countries, and Arafat,
as a basis for further negotiations that will eat away still more at Israel's
positions."
Comments
Getting back to the Geneva Accord. Evidently
Secretary of State Colin Powell has indicated that he is going to meet with
negotiators of this proposed peace accord.
For those who are not familiar with the Geneva Accord, it's an unofficial peace plan that has been developed by a group that is outside of Prime Minister Sharon's government.
Many believe this agreement is riddled with concessions that will set Israel up to be wiped out. I have to agree. This unofficial accord has put Israel in a very difficult position. This is nothing more than a propaganda scheme aimed at making Sharon's government appear as ineffective and uncompromising negotiators, and it doesn't help that the U.S. is lending credibility to these talks.
I don't believe Israel is naive enough to let world opinion trap them into accepting the unofficial accord but you never know what the Lord has in mind.
