With about 15 days until the year 2000 many are looking for answers to what may happen January 1st at 12:00 AM. Will the electrical system hold up? Will there be rioting, looting and mass hysteria if it doesn't. Will the banking system fail sending shock waves across the financial worldwide markets? Will there be enough food and water? All these are valid questions, but like many catastrophes that have happened across the world, in time, life will continue and we will go on. Yes, we may experience temporary power outages, delays in service or a shortage in basic supplies, but by and large we will survive the y2k scare. I do expect some failures (many more outside of the U.S.). It may take some time to rectify the problems, but not any longer than it took to restore power and services to cities that were rocked by hurricanes throughout the south. What am I saying? We've all suffered through power failures and service problems, some more then others. Sometimes they last for days, weeks and even months. But it won't be the end of the world.
Why am I downplaying the y2k problem you may ask? When I originally wrote this article I painted a much more vivid picture of doom and chaos. I wanted to show how this could really play into the future of prophecy, and it very well could. Jesus could come at any moment and take away His bride, leaving the world to go through the most horrible time in history.
Which leads me to the real question that everyone must answer. After the smoke of y2k has cleared many will still have to face the question of there eternal destiny. Will it be heaven or hell? I can't scare you into heaven and I probably won't scare you out of hell. The Holy Spirit must convict your heart of your sin problem.
Our only hope is in Christ. You can't get to heaven as you are because your sins have separated you from God (Romans 3:23). That's why God sent his only Son to die for the sins of the world, to bridge the gap between God and man (Romans 6:23). If you were good enough to go to heaven on your own merit, Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection would not have been necessary.
Well what do you need to do? First, come to the Father, admitting that you are a sinner. This proclaims your need for a Savior. Second, ask for forgiveness of your sins. Third, ask Jesus, to come into your heart, and save you, and to help you live a life for Him (Romans 10:9-10). Dedicate the rest of your life to serving Him and mean it. Only a truly repentant heart can Christ come in and forgive. Jesus died for you, He ask that you live for Him (Romans 10:13).
If you are choosing right now to believe Jesus died for your sins and to receive new life through Him, pray a prayer similar to this to thank Him for your new life:
"Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died to forgive me of my sins. I now accept Your offer of eternal life. Thank You for forgiving me of all my sin. Thank you for my new life. From this day forward, I will choose to follow You."
If you prayed this prayer, share your decision with a Christian friend or pastor. If you are not already attending church, find one in which you can worship and grow in your faith. Following Christ's example, ask to be baptized as a public expression of your faith.
