If you haven't heard by now, North
Korea is claiming they have successfully tested a nuclear bomb. The South
Korean geological institute says the test amounted to detonating 550
sticks of TNT. But Russian officials claim the nuclear blast was much more
potent with an equivalent of 5,000 to 15,000 tons of TNT.
"The force of the test explosion of the Korean nuclear weapon is in the range of five to 15 kilotons," Ivanov said in televised comments. A kiloton is 1,000 tons.
The high side of the Russian estimate would make the North Korean test blast comparable to the strength of the atomic bomb the United States dropped on Hiroshima in the Second World War.
"Russia certainly condemns the test conducted by North Korea," Putin told top cabinet officials. "It doesn't just concern North Korea; enormous damage has been done to the process of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the world." http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/09102006/2/world-north-korean-nuclear-blast-strength-15-kilotons-tnt-russia.html
On the heels of their first test, South Korean officials believe North Korea is on the verge of performing a second test due to unusual activities going on in a secluded area in the communist state.
“From 4pm (AEST) today, there have been some unusual movements under way at Punggyeri where we had thought the first nuclear test would be carried out,” Mr Kim was quoted as saying.
“We have been closely following developments there to find out whether North Korea is moving to conduct a series of tests as India and Pakistan did,” he said. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20553706-1702,00.html
This is what I see for the future. North Korea has essentially defied the U.S. and the world. That makes them a threat, and in time, the world will learn how big.
They're also now the world poster child for how to successfully talk, negotiate, and stall their way into a nuclear program. I can't believe that much of the world (especially the Arab nations) won't taken notice. I look for many other countries to take North Korea's lead and start pursuing their own nuclear program. In an attempt to prevent further defections war may be inevitable. Could this be what starts the war of Revelation chapter six that will claim one-quarter of the world's population?
In other news, Washington sources believe that Iran and Syria are planning a pre-emptive strike on Israel. In an October 7th interview with Kuwaiti newspaper al-Anba, Syrian leader Bashar Asad said he fully expects Israel to attack his country in the very near future and must take proactive measures.
"Asad’s Iranian-backed war plan would serve the purpose of forcing the Americans to divide their military assets between a strike against Iran and the defense of their allies in the Persia Gulf, Israel and US forces in Iraq. Both are seriously looking at a Syrian attack on the Golan which would escalate into a full-blown Syrian-Israeli war and a second Hizballah assault from Lebanon.
Asad’s remark that during the Lebanon hostilities, he was under pressure from the Syrian population to go to war against Israel and liberate the Golan is the most direct threat of belligerency of all his four Golan statements in the last month." http://www.debka.com/
Baring a miracle from God, I do look for war in the Middle East to come very soon. How long it will last or if some world leader will be able step in and stop it temporarily is another question.
