report: US ready for Iran strike and it may come by spring

Despite repeated denials by the Bush administration, reports are coming in that claim the US is planning a major strike on Iranian nuclear sites that could take place as early as spring of 2007. The reports say the plans are in their final stages, virtually all the pieces are in place, and the targets have been selected, but a final decision has not yet been made.

In a sign that an attack may be imminent, President Bush has ordered oil reserves to be stockpiled. "All the moves being made over the last few weeks are consistent with what you would do if you were going to do an air strike. We have to throw away the notion the US could not do it because it is too tied up in Iraq. It is an air operation", said Colonel Sam Gardiner, a former air force officer who has carried out war games with Iran as the target. http://www.guardian.co.uk/iran/story/0,,2010086,00.html

Russian president Vladimir Putin has come out and attacked the United States as very dangerous and has reiterated its commitment as a friend of Iran's.

In light of the rumor that the US is on the verge of attacking Iran, Putin accused the West of trying to force its will on the rest of the world at an annual gathering of top security and defence officials in Munich, Germany, on Saturday. He also said that he felt they were trying to control the world.

"What is a unipolar world? No matter how we beautify this term it means one single centre of power, one single centre of force and one single master."

"It has nothing in common with democracy because that is the opinion of the majority taking into account the minority opinion," Putin said.

"People are always teaching us democracy but the people who teach us democracy don't want to learn it themselves. Unilateral actions have not resolved conflicts but have made them worse."

As far Scripture is concerned, there is no mention of Iran being destroyed in the latter days by a Western power. They are, however, believed to take part in an attack against Israel where they will be resoundingly defeated. The defeat will be so devastating that they will not be heard from in Scripture again (Ezekiel 38 & 39). But this battle is yet future. For this reason I question whether the US will attack Iran.

Certainly, the US could successfully attack and destroy all of Iran's nuclear installations with little or no reprisal. As I said in the past, we have no idea how powerful Iran really is or isn't. They could have a very big bark (as Iraq proved) with no real bite...especially after their nuclear facilities have been destroyed.

But we should all remember that a US air strike could be torpedoed by heavy US and world public opinion. A considerable amount of negative press has already begun.

Of course, there is another scenario that could come about. With rumors of a US strike on Iran by spring, Israel projected to be in a major war by summer, and the continued turmoil in Iraq, it brings to mind Mark 13:28 & 29 which says, "Now learn a parable of the fig tree; when her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors."

Could our Lord literally be speaking of the time of year that He will come and rapture the church? Far be it from me to date set or to lead you to the conclusion that this verse should be interpreted as such, but the Lord has to come in one of the four seasons and late spring 2007 is as good as any. It would also be a good time for the Antichrist to come on the scene and straighten out the world's problems just before they explode.

Something else you should be picking up on the eve of a possible US/Iran conflict is that Russian president Putin has publicly chosen who his friends are (Iran) and who they are not (US). It will be interesting to see how Russia reacts if/when the US destroys their contracted nuclear reactor.
