Revelation 6:1-8 describes the rise of the antichrist and the ensuing world war that will claim one-quarter of the world's population.  If we take the present world population of around six billion, one-quarter of that figure comes to one and a half billion people.  There has never been a military death toll in all of history that has even come close to that figure.  In fact, I would say that if you combined all the wars in history it wouldn't equal the lose of life that will occur during this single future mega war.

I can't imagine what will transpire that will cause such devastation in such a short amount of time.  Obviously, nuclear weapons will be used, and judging from the admission of top world scientists, more than a few rogue countries will have this capability in the near future.  Even Russia has decided to come out in full nuclear force and show its power to the world.  Russia may be hiding under the umbrella of democracy but they are still every bit a threat to their neighbors, the U.S., and the world.  They will one day soon rise up and shock the world (Ezekiel 38 & 39).

Although many have this war slated for the beginning of the tribulation period it could end up happening closer to the middle. Actually, any prediction would be nothing more than a guess.  I've always said, the events of the tribulation period will happen, but in what order is anyone's guess.  Of course, I feel that the order will be first the seal judgments, followed by the trumpet judgments, and concluded by the bowl judgments.  This is the most obvious and I believe will turn out to be the correct order.

But there are also a few other wars that will be thrown into the mix that may or may not be included as part of the three sections of judgments.  Most notably, the Russian-Arab attack on Israel (Ezekiel 38 & 39), the crushing defeat of three nations that choose to rebel against the power and authority of the antichrist (Daniel 7:24), and the complete destruction of Mystery Babylon (Revelation 17& 18).  We know that these three battles will take place during the last days but when they will occur and in what order is somewhat of a question.  

In this section of the article I will attempt to place some of the previously mentioned events in an order that is most likely.

The War of Revelation 6:1-8

First Theory: This war will probably take place at the beginning of the tribulation period and will obviously be nuclear.  It's my guess that an all out nuclear war will occur and those who survive will be left to pick up the pieces.  This could be how the antichrist comes to power as he brings about a plan that will restore civilization back to order.   This plan would not be the same as the seven year agreement with Israel but it will cause the world to wonder after the beast (Revelation 13:4).

The U.S. may or may not survive this devastating war.  This could be the time that Mystery Babylon falls in a single hour (Revelation 18).  In 1982, the last time Russia had a full military nuclear exercise, they dubbed it the "seven-hour nuclear war".  Their timeframe may not be to far off.  

The Russian-Arab attack may also be included in this war.  Once the war is over the antichrist will solidify his power.  After this war, the devastation may reduce the antichrist's kingdom to ten nations.  Since Israel will be one of the surviving nations I must assume that they will have a prominent place within the antichrist's kingdom.  It's within the realm of reason that they could be a member nation of the EU or a high ranking partner.  If you remember, Israel recently applied for an upgrade in EU status equal to that of Norway and Switzerland (Article# 630).  

At some point Israel will rebuild their temple.   But midway through the tribulation period the antichrist will march into the temple and declare himself to be God (Revelation 13) and sole ruler of the world.  This won't sit well with three nations within his kingdom.  They will rebel but will be soundly crushed (Daniel 7:24).  These three nations could turn out to be the "Big Three" who have taken a forced leadership role upon the other EU members (Britain, France & Germany).  

Second Theory:  The antichrist comes on the scene and confirms a treaty with Israel and many other nations (Daniel 9:27).  In the treaty, Israel will either be protected or will be given membership into the E.U.  Either way, the E.U. and probably the U.S. will be their protectors.  

The treaty will probably consist of the following:  Israel will give back land, a Palestinian state will be created and each nation will share Jerusalem as their capital.  Israel may even be tricked into signing a nuclear disarmament agreement with the Arab world.  Essentially, the agreement would state that all nations involved reveal, dismantle, and be subject to regular inspections by a third party.  This would leave Israel at the mercy of her protectors.

Six months to a year later, Russia and a number of Arab nations will attack Israel in full force (Ezekiel 38 & 39).  The attack will be secret and to sudden for the U.S. or E.U. to respond.  Israel will be left to deal with the invading armies.  But God will intervene miraculously (Ezekiel 38 & 39) and destroy them. 

At some point, the world will be plunged into a horrible world war that will claim the lives of one-quarter of the world's population.  This war may very well be separate from the others.  The EU, US, China, and Israel are a short list of those who will come out on the other side of this terrible war.

Close to the midway point of the tribulation period the antichrist will still be under the power of the U.S.  The antichrist will give the command to destroy the U.S. (Mystery Babylon).  The antichrist has followed the lead of the U.S. for three and one half years, but at that point it will end.  The Bible says that they will be destroyed in one day.  It is my belief, as advanced as the U.S. will be, their technology will fail that day.  They will be completely defenseless and utterly destroyed.  It should be noted that God puts it into their hearts to destroy Mystery Babylon (Revelation 17:14-17).

The antichrist will then walk into Jerusalem and into their sacred temple and declare himself to be God.

A variation of this theory could be that following the defeat of the Russian-Arab alliance there maybe a lapse in time before the antichrist destroys Mystery Babylon, puts down three nations and desecrates the temple.  This could be when one-quarter of the world's population is killed.
