Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is poised to become the new Middle East peace envoy representing the Quartet and the announcement could be as early as tomorrow.  Sources say that he was at first reluctant to take the job unless his authority was broadened in scope to include both economic and political powers. He wanted to make certain that he was able to use his “mediation skills set" and that he would also have a hand in bringing about a realistic possibility of peace.  In other words, before Mr. Blair would agree to take the job he wanted complete assurance that he would play a vital role and have the power to bring about Middle East peace both in the economic and political arenas.  It should be noted, James Wolfensohn, the previous Middle East envoy and former president of the World Bank, had limited powers that dealt mainly with the economic concerns of Gaza.

Not everyone is excited about Mr. Blair's new appointment, but Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni seems to believe he will make a perfect Middle East envoy.  "Israel has the 'utmost respect' for outgoing British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and his appointment as the Quartet's Middle East envoy would be a 'terrific decision,' Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Tuesday, as Quartet envoys meeting in Jerusalem discussed the appointment."  http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1182409643215&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

Certainly, this doesn't make Tony Blair the antichrist but it sure puts him in the drivers seat...for now.  I also felt the timing of Mr. Blair's visit to see the pope and sudden conversion to Catholicism to be a little strange, but again, that doesn't make him the antichrist.  Many prophecy experts believe that a future pope will be the false prophet.

I also find it fascinating that Mr. Blair insisted that his powers be extended to both economic and political.  The Quartet could easily have denied his demands and picked someone else, especially since two major powers (UK & Russia) weren't exactly excited about his appointment.

You should also keep in mind that Israel has an excellent rapport with Mr. Blair and from the words of Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni she believes he would make a perfect Middle East peace envoy...and she wouldn't have said that unless that was the sentiment of the Israeli administration.

As I said in an earlier commentary, it's very possible that the antichrist could start out as the Middle East peace envoy and bring about a Middle East peace that will not only prosper politically but economically as well.  It is generally believed by most prophecy experts that the antichrist will in some way convince Israel's enemies to accept them to the point that they will agree to give Israel favored nation status and acceptance around the world.

I believe the peace and prosperity the antichrist brings will so astound the world that he will be viewed upon globally as the greatest peacemaker of our time. In fact, the Middle East may only be the beginning of his peacemaking exploits.  He may move to tackle other hotspots around the world quickly achieving the same results. Under his leadership, the world may for the first time experience a worldwide peace. Of course, it will be short-lived.

Through his successes, he will easily win the election to become the first (or second) president of the European Union.  It's very possible that one of his first moves as president could be to invite Israel to join the European Union in either a full or partial status. Either way, it would place Israel under the protection of the European Union. This could actually turnout to be the seven-year peace agreement the Bible speaks of between Israel and the antichrist (Daniel 9:27).  It would also explain why Israel is one of the surviving countries following the world war of Revelation 6:7 & 8 (Fourth Seal) where one-quarter of the world's population will perish.

Certainly, this is all speculation but does serve as a framework for what possibly could happen in the future for whoever the antichrist turns out to be.

As astute Bible prophecy students, I encourage you to continue to keep your eyes on where this could lead.

Are you ready to meet the Lord?  If not, your time is running out!
