Prime Minister Olmert: World views Israel sharing Jerusalem with 1967 borders; Syria: We want peace with Israel but they must give back Golan Heights
"Prime Minister Ehud Olmert signaled on Tuesday Israel might have no choice but to share Jerusalem with the Palestinians in a peace deal, citing international pressure for compromise over the holy city."
"The world that is friendly to Israel ... that really supports Israel, when it speaks of the future, it speaks of Israel in terms of the '67 borders. It speaks of the division of Jerusalem," Olmert said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post. Yahoo
Israel has reached the point of no return in the peace talks even if the Palestinians do not uphold their end of the bargain. Actually, I don't expect the Arab world to give an inch on concessions.
I do have to agree with Prime Minister Olmert, the world does view the future of Israel as sharing Jerusalem and reverting back to 1967 borders. Even Israel's closest allies have been pressuring them to make difficult concessions that will prove in the future to be very dangerous.
At the same time, Turkey is mediating between Israel and Syria to bring about peace.
"Damascus has decided to pursue real peace with Israel which will give Syria its rights back," Syrian sources told the London-based Arabic daily, referring to Senator Arlen Specter's meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad earlier this week.
Meanwhile, the sources also said that in order to motivate a real peace deal between the two countries, "Israel must guarantee the return of the entire Golan Heights to Syria." Jerusalem Post
You can be assured that the future peace plan will include Israel relinquishing the Golan Heights back to Syria.
To assure that there are no setbacks in the peace process, Prime Minister Olmert has given specific orders that all new construction in the West Bank or Jerusalem must first be okayed by his office. A letter circulated by his office states that any "Establishment, new construction, expansion, preparation of plans, issuing residency tenders, confiscation of land and all other activities related to Israeli settlement of the area shall not go forward and shall not be carried out without requesting and receiving in advance approval by the defense minister and the prime minister." Jerusalem Post
This letter was circulated in preparation for President Bush's visit next week and speaks to the seriousness of Mr. Olmert's resolve to bring about peace at any cost.
It will be interesting to see if Prime Minister Olmert's efforts will bring peace in 2008.
Iran and Egypt are at this time laying the groundwork to reestablish the normalization of diplomatic relations. As of late, Iran has been feverishly mending fences with many of its Islamic neighbors...which will set the stage for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled (Ezekiel 38 & 39) in the very near future.
