US Betrayal of Israel Begins: US to Open Diplomatic Mission in Iran; The US is preparing to station its first diplomats in the Islamic Republic since the 1979
In an apparent nod to a non-military solution to the Iranian nuclear threat, the United States plans to restore diplomatic relations with Iran. The US is preparing to station its first diplomats in the Islamic Republic since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, when diplomatic ties were severed between the two nations, the Guardian reported.
According to the British report, an announcement will be made next month on a US "interests section" in Tehran, a preliminary step to establishing a full embassy in the Iranian capital. The section will be staffed by American diplomats.
The announcement represents a dramatic shift in recent US policy towards Iran, which it has long classified a hostile regime. The US has regarded the Islamic Republic's interests as contrary to its own ever since the Muslim fundamentalist revolution which toppled the US-backed Shah, and the sudden reversal of US President George Bush's hawkish approach to the Tehran government comes just as international tensions reach a new peak over Iran's disputed nuclear program.
Some in Israel worry that the American nod to a diplomatic approach to Iran in the face of European pressure is reminiscent of American appeasement of Germany in the years leading up to WWII. As Israel braces itself for a rocket attack from a potentially nuclear Iran, the fear in the Jewish state is that such appeasement will lead to another holocaust of its people. Israel National News
Analysis
News has broken that the US plans to place a diplomat in Tehran for the
first time in almost 30 years. That almost certainly eliminates Israel's
option to conduct a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. It will
also take off the negotiating table Israel's request that Syria break diplomatic
ties with Iran. With the US taking up residence in Iran, which will be announced
next month, I don't see Syria's relationship with Iran being relevant in a peace
deal any longer.
The Jerusalem Post is reporting that Israel and the Palestinians will be in the US at the end of this month for trilateral peace talks. Palestinian negotiator Erekat also said "Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will meet next week." Jerusalem Post
This is bad news for Israel, but I believe it plays right into the scenario that I see for the future in Bible prophecy. There's no doubt in my mind that we are headed for peace in the Middle East...but it will be at great cost to Israel. It is highly unlikely that Israel will be allowed to attack Iran's nuclear facilities now that the US has made amends with Iran. From this time on, Israel will be under intense global pressure to agree to a peace accord with Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and maybe even Iran. The peace described in Daniel 9:27 is coming soon, but who will bring it, is the big question.
Here's another sign of peace. This was reported in the Jerusalem Post regarding the absorption of Palestinian refugees:
Meretz MK Yossi Beilin on Thursday called on European countries to declare how many Palestinian refugees and their descendants they would be willing to absorb as part of any future peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.
"It is important that we know now how many Palestinian refugees [third] countries are willing to absorb, so that when we get to the critical moment [of a peace agreement] we will be prepared for such an eventuality, and be able to carry it out," Beilin said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.
Even the Israeli diplomats are conceding that peace is inevitable. Speaking of the European Union, I believe they will likely step up to the plate and absorb Palestinian refugees. They may even go so far as to give them EU citizenship or maybe even incorporate the state of Palestine (unlikely, but possible) into the EU.
Of course, this is all speculation, but I do see the European Union playing a pivotal role in the future peace talks to the point that they may guarantee Israel's safety.
