In secret note, Olmert says Bush has deserted Israel against Iran
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday that Iran now possesses 6,000 centrifuges, a significant increase in the number of uranium-enriching machines in its nuclear program, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
The new figure is double the 3,000 centrifuges Iran had previously said it was operating in its uranium enrichment plant in Natanz.
In April, Ahmadinejad said Iran had begun installing 6,000 centrifuges at Natanz. His reported comments Saturday provided the first public assertion that Iran has reached that goal.
"Today, they have consented that the existing 5,000 or 6,000 centrifuges not be increased and that operation of this number of centrifuges is not a problem," State radio quoted Ahmadinejad as saying on Saturday.
A report by the UN's nuclear monitoring agency that was delivered to the Security Council in May said Iran had 3,500 centrifuges, though a senior UN official said at the time that Iran's goal of 6,000 machines running by the summer was "pretty much plausible."
The workhorse of Iran's enrichment program is the P-1 centrifuge, which is run in cascades of 164 machines. But Iranian officials confirmed in February that they had started using the IR-2 centrifuge that can churn out enriched uranium at more than double the rate.
A total of 3,000 centrifuges is the commonly accepted figure for a nuclear enrichment program that is past the experimental stage and can be used as a platform for a full industrial-scale program that could churn out enough enriched material for dozens of nuclear weapons. Ynetnews.com
Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert this week shot off a strong secret note to US President George W. Bush, DEBKAfile’s sources reveal, protesting the administration’s strategic steps toward rapprochement with Iran.
Israel was not forewarned, Olmert wrote bitterly, although these steps directly violated US-Israel understandings on Iran of the past year. Bush, he said, had broken the promises he gave in face-to-face meetings with the prime minister earlier this year. If nothing is done to arrest Iran’s progress towards a nuclear bomb, Olmert warned, Iran will have all the components ready for assembly by early 2009, that is, in 6-8 months.

moves the US has taken toward reconciling with Iran... especially, during this
critical time when they are on the verge of becoming a nuclear power.
Olmert warned that without intervention, Iran could have all the components
ready for the assembly of a nuclear bomb by early 2009 ( 6-8 months away).
That virtually cuts the previous timeline presented to Barak Obama during his ME
visit in half (late 2009 to early 2010).
This is not surprising in the least, in fact, it's expected news. I have been declaring this day would come for 10 years or more. Listed below are a few (documented) excerpts from articles I wrote back in early 2000 that highlights or mentions my belief of a future US betrayal of Israel.
What about the Middle East peace negotiations! There will be a temporary minor peace agreement between Israel and PLO/Syria. It definitely won't be all that the Arab's would have wanted, but there will be peace. Of course, this will be short lived. The Arab's never wanted peace only better positioning for an all out attack.
Will the U.S. intervene when this attack takes place? The U.S. will protest the attack but will not get involved. The magnitude of this war will be large and the stakes too high for the U.S. to come to the rescue. Besides, it could set off World War III. It's hard to predict what will happen in the coming hours, but here are the possibilities.
1. Russia, along with the Arab world, could stage an all out attack on Israel (See article 40). This was predicted over 2500 years ago to happen in the last days. Some prophecy experts believe that when this attack occurs that Jesus will come and destroy the invading armies (rain down fire and brimstone) and rapture the church at the same time. The U.N. has already paved the way for an attack by condemning the Israelis for their part in the clash. The United States has abstained from the vote. It would not surprise me, if such an attack did take place, that the U.S. would turn there back on Israel. Calvary Prophecy (October 8, 2000)
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in an interview with Fars News Agency, he said that "Today, they (the world community) have consented that the existing 5,000 or 6,000 centrifuges not be increased and that operation of this number of centrifuges is not a problem". Ynetnews.com Of course, Iran has no intention of stopping at 5000/6000 centrifuges. Their goal is to achieve full nuclear weapons status and I don't expect the world to stand in their way. This latest move by the United States away from Israel and toward Iran is a signal to the global leaders that the military option is no longer valid, and to Iran that they have outlasted the pressure of the great Satan (US) and their allies. Since then, oil prices have dropped sharply (during peak summer months) and the drums of imminent war have softened.
It will be interesting to see the direction the world takes once the two week time limit Iran has to accept/reject UN incentives expires.
