US sources hint that by rejecting Iran sanctions, Moscow opens door to Israeli attack
Israel's security cabinet on Wednesday warned Lebanese terrorist militia Hizballah that it will not be permitted to continue violating UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by receiving illicit arms shipments via Syria.
Israel has kept a close eye on the ongoing arms smuggling that has helped Hizballah rebuild since the 2006 Second Lebanon War by conducting regular military overflights.
Hizballah recently threatened to use air defense systems it hopes to take possession of in the near future to shoot down the Israeli planes. The threat prompted Wednesday's cabinet meeting. Israel Today
Palestinian forces operating out of the Hamas-controled Gaza Strip fired a rocket into southern Israel on Wednesday evening, nearly striking a greenhouse in a local kibbutz.
Israel had previously vowed, on numerous occasions, to respond harshly to any Palestinian violations of the Gaza truce, which has now been in effect for over six weeks. During that time, the Palestinian have fired dozens of rockets and mortar shells at communities in southern Israel.
According to a report in the German news magazine Der Spiegel this week, Israeli security source say that in the past year alone, the terrorists have imported over 10 million bullets, thousands of machine guns, 175 tons of high-grade explosives and a number of precision guided anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles. United States Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice on Thursday refrained from saying the U.S. would prevent Israel from
mounting a much-touted attack against Iran over the Islamic Republic's nuclear
aspirations.
"We don't say yes or no to Israeli military operations. Israel is a
sovereign country," Rice said in an interview with Yahoo! News.
The secretary of state emphasized the importance of using diplomacy to defuse
the dispute over Iran's nuclear program, which Israel and the U.S. charge is
aimed at developing nuclear weapons.
"We are in very close contact with the Israelis and we
talk about the diplomatic track that we're on," she told Yahoo! News.
Rice's comments came a day after Iran failed to accept an incentives package
meant to resolve the dispute. Haaretz.com
The European parliament chief said Thursday
that the EU is prepared to broker Israel-Syria peace talks.
Visiting Lebanon, Hans-Gert Pottering says European officials are ready to be
involved as honest brokers whenever it is felt to be appropriate. Pottering held
talks Thursday with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, Prime Minister Fuad
Siniora and other Lebanese officials. On Friday he will travel to south Lebanon
to meet with United Nations peacekeeping troops on the ground.

Analysis
As Israel gears up for a possible strike on Iranian nuclear sites, the US is
saying neither yeah or nay as to whether they will step in and prevent the
attack. Personally, I do not believe such an attack will take place before
Middle East peace comes about...but war will come soon enough! We are
definitely at an interesting prophetic crossroad.
Speaking of Middle East peace, the European Union is ready to take the reins and broker peace between Israel and Syria. Many Bible believing prophecy experts believe that Scripture supports that the new Roman Empire (EU) will eventually step in and broker the peace described in Daniel (9:27). This latest report by Haaretz.com looks to take the EU one step closer to that realization. Of course, it will not be completely fulfilled until the Antichrist steps on the scene sometime after the rapture of the church takes place, but the transition (in recent years) from the US-led quartet to the European Union is a fascinating development. I stand amazed at all the prophecies that have positioned themselves in these last days from the bazaar relationship between Russia and the Islamic world to the proclamation by virtually every world leader that global peace is dependent upon peace with Israel (Middle East peace).
